Youth Jobs Gap report: Exploring Compound Disadvantage from Impetus

It was sobering to watch this morning's presentation by Ayesha Baloch of the latest analysis in her Impetus report on Exploring compound disadvantage: "Young people who are from low socio-economic backgrounds, who have low qualifications and also have SEND are almost three times more likely to be not in education, training or employment (NEET)"

"Low qualifications" refers to not having 5 GCSE passes, including in Maths and English. Ayesha explained that every step up the qualifications ladder (including getting those GCSE passes) can halve the chance of a young person becoming NEET. You can read the full report here: https://www.impetus.org.uk/youthjobsgap2025

In our MathsMakers programmes, we work with children and young people from low socio-economic background and with SEND. They have tremendous potential but need some extra attention, encouragement and support to succeed. We are glad to partner with schools and local community organisations to provide that extra support and make a difference to their lives.

Small Charity Week

Today marks the start of Small Charity Week. MathsMakers is delighted to be joining all small charities working with children and young...

For online intervention, MathsMakers has been working with schools as part of the National Tutoring Programme (NTP). MathsMakers is an approved NTP tuition partner. Post NTP, we are continuing to develop and expand our online programmes. We charge a subsidised rate to schools that can be covered using their Pupil Premium funding.

MathsMakers also delivers in-person intervention in partnership with schools and other education charities, thanks to endorsement and support from John Lyon’s Charity and other funders. Each year we have a limited number of these programmes available at heavily subsidised rates. Please contact us for more information.

MathsMakers recognises the significant value of working in partnership with schools. More information about how mainstream schools, supplementary schools and other education organisations work together is provided by Securing Success in a short video here. Securing Success has provided several years of guidance and support for MathsMakers and we are glad to share their vision of partnership work with schools.

MathsMakers partners with schools to reduce the attainment gap and make maths accessible for all.
