Yesterday, MathsMakers returned to the Mr Numbervator Maths Show to mark the start of National Work Experience Month, giving three of our Year 10 and Year 11 students the opportunity to experience live radio broadcasting.
Although the students were understandably a little nervous beforehand, they quickly relaxed and did an amazing job, speaking confidently, answering questions and interviewing guests during the live show.
A huge thank you to our wonderful host, Isaac Anoom (Mr Numbervator), whose enthusiasm and encouragement helped everyone feel at ease. We were also delighted to be joined by Councillor Angela Joyce de Souza, while Councillor Trevor Blackman joined the discussion by phone. It was also a pleasure to meet Reverend Dr Paul Hill from Fernhead Road Methodist Church.
The highlight of the evening came right at the end of the programme. One student, who had been feeling particularly unsure about both maths and appearing on the radio, was asked how she had found the experience. Smiling, she replied:
"It was really good – it has changed my opinion about maths." 💜
Moments like these remind us why opportunities beyond the classroom matter. They help young people build confidence, develop communication skills and discover what they're capable of.
It was also wonderful to hear such positive feedback from parents afterwards:
"My son had an absolutely amazing experience."
"My daughter really enjoyed it and is very proud of herself."
Thank you to everyone who made the evening such a memorable experience. We can't wait to return!
🎥 We'll be sharing the video recording of the show as soon as it's available, so keep an eye on our page!
