A Welcoming and Supportive Environment

Our community programmes provide a safe, welcoming space where young people can build their maths skills without the pressures often associated with the classroom.

Working in small groups, students are encouraged to ask questions, explore different approaches and learn from one another. Sessions are engaging, interactive and designed to help students develop confidence as well as mathematical understanding.

Whether a young person has missed learning, struggles with confidence or simply needs extra support, our programmes help them realise that success in maths is achievable.

Personalised Learning

Every MathsMakers community programme is tailored to the needs of the young person attending.

Our experienced instructors assess each student's current understanding and adapt activities accordingly. Students work through topics at a pace that suits them, revisiting key concepts where needed while developing fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills.

By focusing on individual strengths and next steps, we help every student make meaningful progress.

Fun and Engaging Sessions

Learning maths should be enjoyable.

Our sessions combine focused learning with puzzles, games, collaborative challenges and mathematical investigations that encourage curiosity and participation. Students are supported to explain their thinking, try different strategies and celebrate their progress.

By making maths engaging, we help students develop a more positive attitude towards learning and greater confidence in their own abilities.

Experienced Instructors and Small Groups

Our community programmmes are led by expereinced MathsMakers instructors who understand that every young person learns differently.

Small group sizes allow instructors to provide personalised support, answer questions and explain concepts in different ways until students feel confident. Where appropriate, students may also benefit from extra support provided by experiened adult volunteers or trained peer mentors.

This personalised approach ensures every student receives the encouragement and guidance they need to thrive.

Working in Partnership with Local Communities

We work alongside youth organisations, young carers services and community groups to deliver programmes where they are needed most.

By providing maths support in familiar community settings, we help remove barriers to learning and create opportunities for young people who may not otherwise access additional support.

Together with our partners, we help young people improve their maths skills, increase their confidence and develop the resilience to succeed both in school and beyond.

For online intervention, MathsMakers has been working with schools as part of the National Tutoring Programme (NTP). MathsMakers is an approved NTP tuition partner. Post NTP, we are continuing to develop and expand our online programmes. We charge a subsidised rate to schools that can be covered using their Pupil Premium funding.

MathsMakers also delivers in-person intervention in partnership with schools and other education charities, thanks to endorsement and support from John Lyon’s Charity and other funders. Each year we have a limited number of these programmes available at heavily subsidised rates. Please contact us for more information.

MathsMakers recognises the significant value of working in partnership with schools. More information about how mainstream schools, supplementary schools and other education organisations work together is provided by Securing Success in a short video here. Securing Success has provided several years of guidance and support for MathsMakers and we are glad to share their vision of partnership work with schools.

MathsMakers partners with schools to reduce the attainment gap and make maths accessible for all.
