A Year of Progress: Reflecting on 2025/26

As another academic year comes to an end, we're taking a moment to reflect on the incredible progress made by the young people, mentors, schools and community organisations that make up the MathsMakers community.
This year has been one of growth, collaboration and achievement. Together, we've continued our mission of making maths accessible for all by providing targeted support to young people who need it most.

Supporting Young People Beyond the Classroom
For many students, maths can be one of the most challenging subjects at school. While teachers work incredibly hard to support every learner, increasing financial pressures, limited resources and large class sizes can make it difficult to provide the personalised support that some students need. At the same time, the cost of private tuition can make additional maths support inaccessible for many families, leaving too many young people without the targeted support that could make a real difference.
At MathsMakers, we work in partnership with local schools and community organisations to bridge that gap. This year, we worked with 18 partner schools and community organisations (through both online and in-person provisions) to ensure young people who needed additional support could access our programmes. Through small-group tuition, experienced maths teachers/tutors and our growing peer mentoring programme, we help students strengthen their mathematical understanding while building confidence and resilience.

Reaching Those Who Need Us Most
This year, we supported 319 young people, 84% of whom faced one or more additional barriers to learning, including economic disadvantage, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), English as an Additional Language (EAL), and caring responsibilities.
By working alongside schools to identify young people who would benefit most from additional support, we help ensure that every young person has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background.

A Year of Positive Outcomes
This year, our programmes continued to make a real difference.
Over 90% of our students demonstrated clear progress throughout their programmes, with many reporting improved confidence and a more positive attitude towards maths.
Behind every statistic is a young person who gained the confidence to ask more questions, tackle more challenging topics and believe in their own abilities.

Growing Our Peer Mentoring Programme
One of the highlights of the year has been the continued growth of our peer mentoring programme in our in-person programmes.
Working alongside experienced maths instructors, older students act as peer mentors, providing encouragement, explaining concepts in relatable ways and acting as positive role models for younger students.
This year, 95 mentors supported younger learners across our in-person programmes, developing valuable leadership, communication and teamwork skills while helping others succeed. On completion of the programme, mentors receive a personalised letter of recommendation from MathsMakers recognising their commitment and contribution, which they can use to support applications for college, university, apprenticeships or employment.

Stronger Through Partnership
Everything we achieve is made possible through collaboration.
We would like to thank our partner schools, community organisations, funders, instructors, volunteers and families for their continued support throughout the year.
Together, we're helping to create opportunities for young people to overcome barriers, grow in confidence and achieve their potential.

Memorable Moments
Alongside our maths programmes, we were delighted to offer students a range of memorable enrichment opportunities throughout the year.
Students took to the airwaves with two appearances on Chalkhill Community Radio, sharing their experiences and developing valuable communication and confidence-building skills in a live broadcast setting.
Our Executive Director also visited the Houses of Parliament during Small Charity Week, hosted by NCVO. It was a valuable opportunity to spend time in a space where important conversations about the role of small charities are taking place, and to reflect on the wider sector we are part of.

Looking Ahead
As we prepare for another academic year, we're excited to continue expanding our reach, strengthening our partnerships and supporting even more young people on their mathematical journey.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of another successful year at MathsMakers.
Here's to another year of making maths accessible for all.
