Nina, Year 8, Online programme
Nina joined our online programme in Year 8. She lacked confidence in her mathematical ability but quickly picked up on the nature of the small group tutorials where careful and personalised attention was given.
Nina gained confidence in asking questions and often brought some with her from her class at school. She appreciated, and started using, some of the techniques taught to her in the tutorials. An example of this is the method of chunking that was shown to her to help with multiplying large sums during ratio rather than counting from scratch each time.
Nina shared her school test results with us and these highlighted how much she had improved since joining the MathsMakers programme. At the start of the school year she scored 35%, however in her school test towards the end of the MathsMakers programme she achieved 80%. We saw a similar improvement in her MathsMakers quiz results where she achieved 0% and 13% at the start of the programme compared to 82% and 84% at the end.
