Instructors and Volunteers
Gemma Garland
Gemma received a B.A. honours in French and German (University of Reading) and worked as a political analyst for over 10 years. She tutors Maths, French and German, and is experienced supporting students with learning difficulties. Besides tutoring, she is a freelance translator and garden designer.
Octavia Gibson
Octavia is working on MSc in Mathematics (Open University), with PGCE from the University of Bedfordshire, and BSc (Honors) in Engineering, with over 15 years’ experience in mathematics teaching (eight years in Romania and seven years in the UK) for KS2, KS3, GCSE and A-Level. Octavia is the Subject Leader of Mathematics in college. Passionate about mathematics and proud of shaping young lives. Octavia enjoys listening to music, reading, and spending time with her family.
Viola Housley
Viola received a B.Phil. in Education (University of Exeter) and is a trained teacher from Hong Kong. Outside of her work in finance, she has 10 years of experience tutoring maths to Key Stage 3 and 4 students. Viola enjoys singing and hiking.
Sakshi Kansal
Sakshi is an overseas trained teacher and has over 5 years of experience working as a mathematics tutor for primary, GCSE and functional skills maths. She received certificate for an award in education and training for FE sector (City and Guilds). Sakshi enjoys travelling, dancing, reading and spending quality time with family.
Amra Imran
Amra has a BSc honours degree in Mathematics and Economics. She supports maths catch-up for primary and secondary students, both in the classroom and online. She also has several years experience in private tutoring, including preparing Year 6 students for SATs exams. Outside of teaching, Amra enjoys travelling, sports and music.
Massimo Masala
Massimo has a PhD in Engineering and a PGCE in Secondary Mathematics from UCL Institute of Education. He is currently responsible for raising maths achievement of KS3 and KS4 students and coordinating interventions. His teaching philosophy is founded on passion, performance and expectations: these values determine the roads when planning, preparing and delivering his lessons. Massimo enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, reading, cooking, practising martial arts and restoring antiques when possible.
Davy McCracken
Davy has an MSc in Astrophysics (Aberystwyth University) and has been teaching maths both in and out of the classroom since 2018, helping children as well as adults, from KS2 to A-Level. While not teaching, Davy can often be found playing Dungeons and Dragons and painting miniatures.
Aalaa Nounu
Aalaa has received a M.Sci in Mathematics (University of Bristol), followed by a PGCE in Secondary School Mathematics (University of Bristol), then followed by an M.Sc in Mathematics Education (University of Bristol). She has worked as a secondary school teacher in inner city schools and has over 10 years of tutoring experience in primary, KS3, KS4 and KS5 Mathematics. Aalaa enjoys long walks, baking and spending time with her family.
Farzana Nuzhat
Farzana has 7 years of experience teaching secondary maths and 10 years of tutoring maths. Prior to teaching career, she has worked in the microfinance and social development sectors for over 15 years. Farzana did M.B.A majoring in finance but when she changed her career to teaching, she did BSc (Hons) with QTS in teaching Secondary Mathematics from the University of South Wales. Farzana enjoys cooking, baking and spending time with family.
Vishaal Patel
Vishaal has a first class honours in BSC Mathematics, PGCE in Mathematics. Vishaal has over 10 years of tutoring experience, and also works as an examiner. Aside from Mathematics he has a keen interest in chess and Rubik’s cubes.
Helen Poplett
Helen has a BA in Archaeology (Newcastle), and a PGCE and MA from UCL Institute of Education. She has taught maths to children and adults in schools, FE and alternative provision in the UK and Oregon. Helen believes in building confidence alongside mathematical skills, and also has experience of supporting learners with a range of neurodiversity. When not teaching Helen enjoys wild swimming, gardening, and listening to classical music.
Hemali Shah
Hemali is a fully qualified secondary school maths teacher with over ten years of classroom experience. She received a B.Sc in Mathematics (The Open University) and a PGCE. Hemali enjoys swimming, yoga, singing and adventures.
Joyce Wang
Joyce obtained a PhD in biomedical science (Newcastle University) and worked as a biologist for 9 years. She has 3 years of experience teaching maths at entry level, Functional Skills level and for GCSE. Joyce enjoys hiking, cooking and spending time with family.
Dale Vargas (volunteer)
Dale has an MA in Mathematics and Geography from the University of Cambridge. He has taught mathematics in three schools: Malvern College, Bradfield College and Harrow School, and was an examiner in mathematics with International Baccalaureate. At Harrow, he was a House Master and Deputy Head. Since retiring from teaching, he has written six books on sports and social history.
