Embrace The Opportunity
Valuable Mentoring Experience
Student mentors are at the heart of the MathsMakers approach. They are selected from among maths and science students in Years 12 and 13, and Gifted and Talented students in Year 11, as agreed with the schools.
Mentors receive training before the start of the programme, on-going support from their supervisor and 20 hours of maths mentoring practice at their own school.
From the mentoring experience, mentors hone their own maths knowledge and advance their communication and organisation skills .
At the end of the programme, each mentor receives a reference letter from MathsMakers, which is important for work experience and UCAS application. Mentoring work can count for accreditation with the Duke of Edinburgh, ASDAN or Edexcel BTEC, in accordance with the school's arrangements with any of these programmes.
