In Summer 2014, FORUM Research conducted an independent evaluation of a MathsMakers pilot programme at Bishop Douglass School.
For the evaluation, Dr. Marie-Claude Gervais examined session materials and observed sessions in action. She also collected feedback from students and mentors through focus group discussions, and interviewed members of the school's management team. Her report appraises the programme in terms of quality of teaching, outcomes and impact, and lessons learned for future programmes.
We are grateful to Dr. Gervais for her time, effort and insights.
What Does The Report Say?
"The pupils who committed to the programme felt positive about the experience."
"Besides improving their attainment and achievement levels, the pupils involved in MathsMakers felt valued and respected. They developed good, and unexpected, relationships with other pupils, mentors and supervisors."
"The pilot at Bishop Douglass School has been extremely positive for all involved."
